These are small cylindrical logs that are made by compressing sawdust at extremely high compression rates to form a log that is effectively "fused" together. These are very easy to light and burn well in enclosed stoves. Just add a couple of logs to retain the fire. Very little ash is produced and a great deal of heat is given off. Yes, Biologs will burn well in stoves, woodburners and open fires. The biologs have a very low moisture content and can be lit easily with a few sheets of newspaper. Biologs do expand as they burn so it is important not to overload the appliance, equally, as with all fuels, care should be taken that material does not fall from the appliance when it is being stoked etc. See more below.
Biologs sometime known as briquettes are made from sawdust/shavings using hard and softwood to create a log that burns hot but not too fast. No additives are used in the process and all raw material is sourced from sawmills or local carpenters and Joiners.
The biologs are ideal for woodburners and all enclosed fires although will burn on an open fire. They can be used to help poor quality logs burn or to light coal.
They are very easy to light and can be used as a substitute for kindling. The moisture content for biologs is less than 12% compared with 25%+ in normal seasoned logs. Ash content is low which reduces ash tray emptying.
Biologs can be expected to give off around 15-18 mega joules per Kg of heat. This compares favourable with some coals and above the heat given off by normal logs. If instant heat is required biologs will supply it.
Biologs expand as they burn so please don’t overfill your fire and we advise that you do not poke them.
We have had good feedback from a professional chimney sweep that was impressed by the cleanliness of the chimney/flue. (Please visit our links page to access his website.)
Biologs are C02 neutral and a good alternative to other fuels. We now manufacture a new longer log giving an increased burn time thus reducing costs.
Biologs are available in 10kg bags and 20 log boxes (14kg).
