The future of biofuel in Devon

Pellets

What are wood pellets?

We are now producing wood pellets.

Wood pellets are used for a number of things.

Biomass boilers are being installed in domestic and commercial units. These are powered by wood pellets. As the price of gas and electric continue to rise biomass boilers are becoming more and more of a real alternative. A number of schools, councils and the National Trust have or are seriously looking at installing a biomass boiler system.

Cat Litter Used in Stables

Biomass has a significant part to play in the future in reducing Co2 and is being promoted by the Carbon Trust as:

A practical and cost effective way of providing heat and hot water for commercial and industrial applications. It offers significant carbon savings, reduced operation costs and decreased exposure to fuel price volatility.

More information can be found on there website www.carbontrust.co.uk

Alternatively wood pellets are used for cat litter and an alternative to wood shavings for horse bedding.

Our wood pellets will be produced locally with as much of the sawdust and shavings sourced from West Country sawmills and suppliers. We will then look to distribute them in the South West.

Initially 6mm pellets in bags but as soon as possible in bulk also possibly a 8mm pellet for more commercial installations.

Wood pellets must be kept dry at all times to prevent pellet degeneration so storage of the pellets is a vital ingredient in a successful pellet boiler system.
